Abdominal Flaps

DIEP & SIEA

Rebuilding your breast with your body's own natural tissue.

A Natural Approach to Healing

The DIEP flap is an advanced, natural-tissue approach to breast reconstruction that gently utilizes the skin and soft tissue from your lower abdomen. Unlike older surgical techniques, this modern, muscle-sparing method carefully preserves your abdominal core strength, using only the skin and fat to beautifully recreate a soft, warm, and authentic-feeling breast. For many women, this provides a deeply personal way to restore their shape while enjoying the added benefit of a smoother, flatter abdominal contour, very similar to a tummy tuck.

Procedure

During the procedure, our surgeons use meticulous, fellowship-trained microsurgical techniques to carefully transfer the tissue and its supplying blood vessels from your lower abdomen to your chest. The tissue is then artfully shaped into a new breast mound and delicately connected to the blood supply in your chest, allowing the tissue to thrive. Because this approach fully protects your abdominal muscles, the incision on your stomach is simply closed with dissolvable stitches, ensuring you heal with greater comfort and maintain your natural strength.

Benefits

Choosing a DIEP flap reconstruction offers a beautifully authentic result that looks, feels, and moves just like a natural breast, naturally changing with your body over time. Because it relies entirely on your own living tissue, there is no need for breast implants, which brings profound peace of mind by eliminating the worry of future implant maintenance or replacements. Furthermore, by preserving your core muscles, this specialized technique supports a smoother, more comfortable recovery, empowering you to return to your daily life feeling strong, whole, and completely at home in your own skin.

The Dual-Microsurgeon Model

We are proud to be the first and only plastic surgery practice in Arkansas designed around a collaborative, dual-microsurgeon team approach.

By working in tandem, we are able to significantly reduce operating and anesthesia times, enhance patient safety, and double the precision applied to every detail of your surgery. Typically found only in large, academic medical institutions, this model allows two fellowship-trained microsurgeons to operate together during complex procedures.
